Window to the Woods is a two-part, six-session course on understanding Maine’s forest communities.

The program aims to provide a strong understanding of Maine’s forests, encourage you to share what you learn with the students in your classroom, and utilize the available resources with students.

Forest Biology & Ecology (Session 1 Resources)
Window to the Woods, a two-part, six-session course on understanding Maine’s forest communities. Our goal is for you to leave this course with a strong understanding of the forest in your community, share what you learn with the students you work with, and utilize the standards-aligned Project Learning Tree resources available to you. In this session, we discuss incorporating forest biology and ecology into formal and nonformal classrooms with Jay Wason, a University of Maine School of Forest Resources Assistant Professor of Forest Ecosystem Physiology, and Lindsay Strout, a high school science teacher and Project Learning Tree facilitator.
Forest Management (Session 2 Resources)

In this session, We’ll be discussing integrating forest management in the classroom with Nicole Rogers from the University of Maine’s School of Forest Resources’ and Anita Smith, formal educator and the founder of the China School Forest.

Window to the Woods, a two-part, six-session course on understanding Maine’s forest communities. Our goal is for you to leave this course with a strong understanding of the forest in your community, share what you learn with the students you work with, and utilize the standards-aligned Project Learning Tree resources available to you. In this session, we’ll be discussing where Maine’s trees go when they’re harvested from a forest products manager and hearing about ways to incorporate forest products in k-12 classrooms, focusing on STEM approaches. We’ll be hearing from Sappi International’s Forest Products Manager, Cody Lechance and Bonny Eagle High Schools’ Technology and Engineering educator, Don Denico.
